The landing beaches are spread over roughly eighty kilometres of coastline between Sainte-Mère-Église in the west and Ouistreham in the east. The sites, and how much time each one takes
Most visitors underestimate the distances and overestimate how many sites fit into a day. Four major stops is comfortable. Six is a route march. The pairing that works best for a first visit is the American sector in the morning and Arromanches in the afternoon.

American, British or Canadian sector?
If you are travelling from the United Kingdom or Ireland the itinerary often looks different from the standard American one. Gold Beach at Arromanches, Sword at Ouistreham, Juno at Courseulles and the Bayeux War Cemetery — the largest Commonwealth cemetery in France — form a tighter, less crowded circuit than the Omaha–Pointe du Hoc corridor.

Bayeux, and why it is worth the hour
Bayeux sits in the middle of the whole area and escaped the bombing almost intact. The tapestry takes about an hour with the audio guide, the cathedral another thirty minutes, and the town is the only sensible place on the coast to eat properly at lunchtime. If your day is running well it is the natural last stop before the drive back.

How far is it from Paris to the D-Day beaches?
About 260 km to Arromanches and 285 km to Omaha Beach, which is roughly 3 hours of driving each way on the A13. The beaches themselves are spread over 80 km of coast, so a private car is what makes it possible to see four sites in a single day.
Can you visit the Normandy beaches from Paris in one day?
Yes. A realistic day is 12 to 13 hours door to door with four major stops. If you want the American sector, the Commonwealth sector and Sainte-Mère-Église in the same trip, an overnight stay in Bayeux is a better idea and we can quote it one way.
Do you provide a guide?
Your driver is a licensed chauffeur, not an official guide — French law separates the two roles. We work with accredited battlefield guides in Bayeux and can add one to your day for a fixed supplement, quoted with the transfer.
Which beaches should we choose?
