Long-distance transfers from Paris

Most transfer companies in Paris are built around the twenty-minute airport run and treat everything else as a longer version of it. We do the opposite. Paris Long Trip only does the long journeys — the ones where the driving is the difficult part, where the train forces two changes, and where the difference between a good day and a wasted one is knowing when to leave.

A long-distance transfer means the whole vehicle is yours for the journey, whether that is eighty kilometres to Giverny or five hundred to Amsterdam. You get one figure in writing before you book. It covers the motorway tolls, the fuel, the parking, the driver’s waiting time and the return leg if you want one. It does not change because of traffic, because your flight was late, or because you decided to stay an extra hour.

What counts as a long-distance transfer

There is no legal definition, so here is ours: anything where the driving time in one direction is more than an hour, or where the journey crosses a region. In practice that covers three kinds of booking.

The three journeys we run

• Day trips — out and back in a day, with the driver waiting all day: Mont Saint-Michel, the D-Day beaches, the Loire castles, Champagne, Giverny.
• One-way transfers — Paris or a Paris airport to a city, hotel or port anywhere in France or western Europe: Bruges, Amsterdam, Beaune, Strasbourg, the Alps, Bordeaux, the Riviera.
• Multi-day tours — the same driver and vehicle for two to five days, with hotels of your choosing and a route built around what you want to see.

How a long-distance price is calculated

Long-distance work is priced on the whole journey, not on a meter. The figure is built from the distance in both directions, the tolls on the route, the number of hours the driver is committed, and the vehicle you need. Because the driver has to return whether you are in the car or not, a one-way transfer costs roughly 60 percent of a return rather than half.

That is also why the price per person collapses as the group grows. A Mont Saint-Michel day for two works out at around €685 each; for six it is under €230 each, for exactly the same car and the same driver.

When the car beats the train, and when it does not

We would rather tell you honestly. Take the train when you are one or two people, booked well in advance, travelling city centre to city centre on a route the TGV actually serves — Paris to Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille or Strasbourg.

Take the car when the destination has no station (Mont Saint-Michel, Giverny, Étretat, Chambord, most of the D-Day coast, most of the Alsace wine route), when there are three or more of you, when you are carrying real luggage, when you want to stop somewhere on the way, when you are tasting wine, or when a fixed return time would ruin the day.

   Your driver’s name, photo and mobile arrive the day before. Pay him on the day, by card or cash.
